Over 12 million npm downloads per month. The animation library behind countless React apps, now independent and available for vanilla JavaScript and Vue too. Matt Perry has been writing animation libraries for over a decade, starting with Popmotion in 2014 because CSS animations felt "webby" and janky. He joined Framer to build Framer Motion, focused on making the API as simple as possible while keeping limitless possibilities. After six years at Framer, he spun it out as its own open source project in late 2024. The result is an API that wraps native browser animation capabilities into something developers actually want to use: springs, layout animations, gestures, exit animations, scroll-triggered effects. Matt calls it "a problem" that he can't stop building animation libraries. The web is better for it.
